Eco Choice appoints business-leader Saia Latu to Board of Directors

Government-owned ecolabel Eco Choice is pleased to announce the appointment of businessman Saia Latu to its Board of Directors.

Mr. Latu is the founder and CEO of Trow Group, one of the largest deconstruction firms in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Saia Latu has been involved in the sector for more than two decades. He and Trow Group have won numerous awards for circular economy solutions and providing opportunities to Maori and Pasifika communities.

Trow Group works closely with Auckland Council, Kainga Ora and other government agencies to salvage valuable construction materials, some of which are shipped to Tonga and other Pacific nations, to support local infrastructure projects including schools and churches.

“The work Saia has done in building his business and engaging with Maori and Pasifika communities, is inspirational,” says Andy Hill, Chairperson for Eco Choice.

“He brings a wealth of experience in circular economy and a fresh perspective to the Board. We’re thrilled with his appointment.”

Born in Tonga, Saia Latu grew up in South Auckland, leaving school at 14 to work and help support his family. He says his commitment to sustainable business comes from his Pasifika heritage. People in his village cared for the land and prioritised sustainability and reuse.

“I have a sense of urgency to leave this world in better shape for my tamariki and mokopuna. To create opportunities for them and ensure Papatūānuku thrives again”.

“I chose to be part of Eco Choice because it aligns with Trow Group’s values and my own. I can’t wait to work with this experienced Board to find solutions and contribute to conversations through a Pasifika lens.”

Saia Latu joins chairperson Andy Hill and fellow board members Andrew Gair, Sarah Bolger, Gael Ogilvie, Chloe Van Dyke and Huia Iti.
