Animal & Pet Care

EC-64-25

With over 60% of New Zealand households owning pets, the pet care products industry represents a potentially significant burden on the environment in terms of wastewater loading and subsequent treatment, resource consumption and disposal of packaging materials. The major components in animal and pet care products include surfactants, builders, preservatives, colourants and fragrances. Some components may accumulate, be toxic, or otherwise be harmful in the environment. Surfactants are a burden on wastewater systems. This standard sets requirements to reduce hazardous substances, improve water and energy efficiency, and minimise packaging waste
